Research conducted at the Technical Research Laboratory focuses on the development of basic technology and its industrialization, as well as effective fermentation production processes. By searching for and preparing microorganisms and enzymes with different functions, we are developing new production processes for useful compounds. We also strive for Productivity and enhances product quality with the improvement of purification methods based on chemical engineering technology, as well as the improvement and physically research on microorganisms using recombinant DNA and cell fusion technologies. In addition to techniques in culturing, purification and commercialization of products, we are also advancing our research in waste water disposal and simulation technology applied to system engineering. This multi-faceted research is the core of our company’s fermentation production technologies.
Healthcare Products Development Center performs comprehensive functions for developing products and opening up new markets in the healthcare field worldwide. The Center’s activities include the development of functional materials manufactured by fermentation technologies that our company has specialized in for over 50 years, performing functional evaluations, developing consumer products, and providing scientific information services.
The Center was originally established in 1989 as the Kyowa Hakko Tsukuba Research Laboratories in the Western Business and Research Park of Tsukuba Science City. Subsequently, research functions of Kyowa Hakko in the healthcare field were consolidated at the facility, and in October 2008, it became part of a new company, KYOWA HAKKO BIO, formed following the merger of Kyowa Hakko and Kirin Holdings. Now, many people are turning to health foods and dietary supplements in an effort to protect against life-related diseases, positively maintain good health, and delay ageing. KYOWA HAKKO BIO Healthcare Products Development Center seeks to create value that helps people lead more healthy and comfortable life, and supports the development of the healthcare business through a wide variety of work including the new development of new materials using technologies in the fields of life science, food engineering, the development of dietary supplements, and public relations activities about these materials and products.
The Bioprocess Development Center was established in October 2008 as a new research organization, with the purpose of continuing KYOWA HAKKO BIO’s fermentation production research in areas such as amino acids fermentation. The Center develops manufacturing processes that utilize microorganisms and enzymes to produce a variety of compounds that are used in such fields as pharmaceuticals, medicinal ingredients and health foods. Current problems in the areas of health care, energy and the environment require solutions from a global perspective. Many microorganisms and enzymes are expected to prove useful, such as in the development of manufacturing processes that reduce environmental load. KYOWA HAKKO BIO has faith in the potential of microorganisms and enzymes and is seeking new approaches to resolving these problems. In its efforts to develop manufacturing processes that utilize scientific and technological advances in applied microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology and other fields, KYOWA HAKKO BIO will continue to use innovative approaches to explore the possibilities of microorganisms and enzymes.
